About

The Big Bang Burger Bar was written in 2007 by no one of consequence, penning under the name Adam S. Douglas. The author contacted a few sources in hopes of publishing, including the agent for Douglas Adams, and was told that Mr. Adams’s widow Jane Belson did not want any more Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy books written or published. End of story.

In late 2008, the author discovered that Ms. Belson had commissioned Eoin Colfer to write the 6th book in the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy series. A second effort was made to contact the publisher, Mr. Colfer, Ms. Belson, and Mr. Adams’s agent. Further rebuffs and/or complete silence.

So And Another Thing was published in late 2009. Was it better than The Big Bang Burger Bar? Debatable. Had it been excellent, this web site probably would not have been set up. Well…. you can download The Big Bang Burger Bar and see for yourself.

Over the course of late 2010 to early 2012, the author wrote another book, Hello? Is Anybody There?, which picks up a bit after where The Big Bang Burger Bar left off and follows more misadventures of Arthur, Ford, Trillian, Zaphod, Marvin, and a few others. Mr. Adam S. Douglas doesn’t think that it’s quite as good as The Big Bang Burger Bar, but who knows? You may find it delectable.

In 2020, the author participated in #NaNoWriMo – National Novel Writing Month – and cranked out a third book, The Heart of Gold, finishing the extra trilogy of the original 5-part (plus 1) trilogy.

Well I liked BBBB! Nicely done. The publishers don’t know what they’re missing. I’m sure the alleged Mr. Douglas would be a blast at conventions, too.

  2. You know, this book was incredibly good!! I am a hardcore HH fan. While not as good as the originals, I admit I did enjoy Eoin Colfer’s attempt.. but WOW yours was much more true to form and was even better. Highly entertaining! Thank you so much for sharing this. Could not put it down, this was excellent!!

I’d like to see more high quality books like this in the HH universe, the world would be a better place. Colfer suggested someone different write an HH book every year.. wonder if Jane will consider that? If so, Big Bang Burger bar gets my vote!!!

Hey by the way, you might want to upload it here as well:

Thanks again, you brough an old HH fan pure joy.

  3. Well I think these 3 books are just out of this world fantastic. They emulate Douglas Adams writing style perfectly and are both funny and shocking. All in all, you should definitely read the bbbb collection after Mostly Harmless

  4. Just like with the original Hitchhiker’s books, they leave me wanting more! Phenomenal job!

  5. I have been a fan of the Hitch-Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy since hearing the very first radio episode on BBC Radio 4 on 1979 – during the 1980’s I could literally quite vast swathes of it by heart. I’m not a fan usually of other writers extending dead writers’ works – the Colfer effort was disastrous, on my humble opinion – but I have to say that this is superb!!! It’s almost like the young Douglas Adams was with us again, before he started running out of ideas a bit – I love it, the best follow-up trilogy I’ve ever read by one writer to another writer’s work ❤️😎❤️

Thanks a lot! Nice to have something spirited to carry on with after the unfortunate ending of the original 5.
